Join Virginia Wine Women July 10 - 17, 2024 on a trip of a lifetime along the Duoro River and sail through some of Portugal’s most legendary landscapes. Meaning “River of Gold,” the Douro River lives up to its name by revealing priceless gems along sloping vineyards and sleepy villages where rugged landscapes have been tamed for centuries to produce a bounty of wines and cuisine.
Welcome aboard the newest addition to Avalon's award-winning fleet of Suite Ships® – the intimate Alegria river cruiser, with just 100 guests - and be swept away by Douro’s timeless treasures and traditions, family farms and fevered Fado music, and mouth-watering culinary creations in the world’s oldest demarcated wine region. (If we're lucky, we'll get to try some authentic Portuguese bacalao, and of course we'll be stuffed with sweet pastéis de nata...yummmm.)

Our group will gather onboard for an optional cruise kick-off and meet-ups, and we'll dine together several nights. You'll have plenty of time on your own as well. Also - exciting! - we are looking into a private side trip for Virginia Wine Women only to visit Kopke, the world's oldest port wine house. (To be confirmed.)

Significant others, friends & family are welcome. We'll depart from and return to Porto, a quick flight from Lisbon. Or you may want to make the 3-hour drive instead, lingering in the colorful little towns along the way like Sintra, Obidos, and Cascais, and staying in historic pousadas, like this one.
